Spring Break on South Padre Island
The Island has long since been a traditional and premier party
spot for college students. During Spring Break, they flock
to this southern sandspit and escape the pressures of mid-term
exams. They blow off some steam and mingle with students from
other universities from around the nation. Mexico is just
down the road, and everything they need is just within reach.
The area has ups and downs, as far as boom or bust commerce from the
spring breakers. But each year is nothing less than spectacular
and a nuisance at the same time.

Bike Week at South Padre Island

Every year, around mid October, the streets fill with motorcycles and the air flows with the sound of Harley’s. All types of bikes flock to this annual gathering but none stand out as much as the spectacular Harley Davidson and custom choppers. After two days of fun and activities, the rumbling weekend closes with a motorcycle parade through town and over the Queen Isabella Causeway. |

Winter Holiday – Lighted Boat Parade – Picture Gallery
The llighted boat parade for 2004 was an electric success. Each year, just before Christmas, boat owners from South Padre Island and Port Isabel gather together to create the unique event. A fun contest for creativity marks the start of the event in Port Isabel. From there they form a parade line and cross the bay, heading over to South Padre Island. |
